Vijf jaar na het fijne debuut Everything Touching komt de Britse band Tall Ships op 17 februari eindelijk met een opvolger: Impressions. Eerste single is Meditations On Loss.
In die vijf jaar heeft het trio uit Brighton wel een goede slag geslagen: ze zijn overgestapt van klein label Big Scary Monsters naar het bekendere Fatcat Records, thuis van prima bands als Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad, Animal Collective, Sigur Ros en We Were Promised Jetpacks.
Nieuwe plaat Impressions heeft de band zelf opgenomen en zelf geproduceerd. “It’s the sound of the four of us getting together when our lives would allow; a product of everything we’ve experienced over the past few years and a kick back against it,” vertellen ze op hun Facebookpagina. En die ervaringen kunnen heel zwaar zijn, lezen we verder: “Like everyone, we’ve lost loved ones, suffered ill health, battled peaks and troughs both emotionally and financially – all these universal human experiences have been distilled into the record and the title reflects the impressions that these knocks, blows and pressures leave upon us.”
Single Meditations On Loss past daar dan goed in. De videoclip probeert “the sprint from birth to death and the constant questioning of what we’re running from, for or to” te vangen. Om over na te denken.
