Vandaag even iets kleins tussendoor. Daarmee willen we geen afbreuk doen aan het liedje, zeker niet. Het is namelijk een prachtig liedje, maar wel kort. 1 minuut 35 om precies te zijn. Maar wat goed is, is goed. We hebben het over Little Strand of Moon van het Texaanse duo Mountain Natives.
Mountain Natives is het verhaal van Philip Pappas en zijn vrouw, Loren. Philip ging, na afstuderen, een mooie carrière in de natuurkunde tegemoet. Maar dit, en dat kunnen wij ons voorstellen, was nooit echt zijn passie. Je raadt het al, die passie was muziek. Hij zegde zijn baan op, kwam zijn toekomstige vrouw tegen en… werd gediagnosticeerd met kanker. Wonder boven wonder overleefde hij het. Dit was het teken om volledig te gaan voor een carrière in de muziek. Daarover zeggen ze zelf:
The music that was produced by Philip and Loren was not from a place of wallowing in the doubt of life or death. These “Essential” songs were born from a place of hope and gratitude. We wrote this song because we received a voicemail of a friend who had just divorced and was moving to the Middle East to raise horses and she wanted us to sing her a lullaby. We were driving in the car at the time and we just started singing.
