Dat doen we nadat we begin 2017 schreven over liedje Chimera, een James-Blacke achtige anthem. Nieuw liedje Restart the World is minstens net zo catchy. En belangrijk. Het is namelijk een protest-song. Kyoti maakt zich grote zorgen over onze maatschappij, afhankelijk van technologie en met alle politieke spanningen waarin we vandaag de dag leven.
Gedurende 3 minuut 24 vergeten we deze zorgen even.
Drie mannen. Uit Londen. Ze maken muziek. Dat doen ze onder de naam KYOTI. Ze noemen het art pop. Geïnspireerd op John Grant, SOHN en James Blake. Dat vonden wij wel een interessante combinatie. Nader onderzoek wees uit dat er reeds drie liedjes zijn verschenen, waarvan Chimera de meest recente is.
En man, dat is een catchy liedje. We horen inderdaad veel John Grant (let op die lyrics!) maar ook een portie dubstep, electro en wat nog meer. Kortom, een erg spannend liedje!
Waar Chimera over gaat? KYOTI’s frontman Ed Burgon legt uit:
Chimera is about moving past the loss of a loved one, and that strange internal conflict you feel at times of great change.’ He was inspired to write the track after reading about the death of Carole Lombard: Clark Gable’s third wife and how it completely altered his outlook on life. ‘The word ‘Chimera’ is the state of being two things in one, and something which is unattainable. Both these meanings resonate throughout the song which is about love, grief, and the strange dichotomy of mixed emotions as a relationship ends.
