Saint Sister komt er wel (8.3)

Atmosfolk uit Ierland: eind vorig jaar debuteerde het op Gobsmag dankzij het duo Saint Sister. Nog steeds geen langspeler op het CV, maar wel weer een fijne single: Causing Trouble.

Voor de nieuwkomers, een snelle Matthijs-van-Nieuwkerk-op-de-autocue-introductie. Saint Sister is in november 2014 opgericht door Morgan MacIntyre en Gemma Doherty en meteen ging het hard met tourtjes door Engeland en Duitsland, optredens op belangrijke festivals als SXSW, Glastonbury, Latitude, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn én ons aller eigen Eurosonic. Nieuwste wapenfeit is dat Lisa Hannigan hoogstpersoonlijk het duo heeft gevraagd het voorprogramma te doen in haar aankomende Europese tour. Mag ik een groot applaus voor Saint Sister!

Op nieuwe single Causing Trouble verschuift Saint Sister nog meer van folk naar de soundscaperige Moby / Massive Attack kant. En het werkt, het is een liedje dat onder de huid gaat zitten.

Morgan vertelt: “The song is about transitioning, from Belfast to Dublin, from an old love to a new, and the gaps that can be found between you and another person or place when people transition at different paces and in different directions.”

En tot slot nog even dit, vertelt door Gemma: “At the last minute we found a beautiful old Wurlitzer in the attic which had some electrical problems; one of us would have to sit on it while the other played to stop it from humming, so it just about made it in!”
