De gloriedagen van 1955 (7.8)

Zo, de mannen van 1955 weten hoe ze ons moeten raken. In de mailbox: “If you are looking for a upbeat garage rock song, please have a listen. It would do well in any rock n roll themed mix! Thank you, 1955.” Maar goed, maakt liedje Glory Days  het ook waar? Wat ons betreft wel. We worden er namelijk best vrolijk van. Het kwam op kantoor zelfs bijna tot dansen, en dat wil wat zeggen. Glory Days is overigens al bijna 2 jaar oud, maar dat weerhield de band er niet van het liedje naar ons te sturen. En we zijn blij dat ze dat hebben gedaan. Dat zullen liefhebbers van de jaren 80 en bands als Low Cut Connie met ons eens zijn, zo vermoeden we.

En voor wat achtergrond over de band verwijzen we naar hun bio: In a small countryside studio just north of San Francisco, in late 2012, a group of musicians gathered for late-night sessions and crafted what would become the 1955 sound: lean tight songs with a cinematic sweep to them, propelled by a stripped down garage rock vibe and an unbridled live energy. A throwback to the simplicity and clarity of early rock and roll songwriting, the songs recall the energy of the bands’ heroes (Velvet Underground, Nick Cave, Bob Dylan) but bristle with a modern, moody edge along the lines of Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, The Strokes, and the Walkmen. Echoes of the mysterious year that gave them their name cut through their pop/rock sound to reveal a nod to the past.
